nice music, nice lyrics, nice dancing. all ruined because of poor audio and video quality. best to view this song once to see Padmini dancing (as both Lord Krishna and also as Radha in the same song, surely something unique); and then again hear the song while reading the lyrics to make sense of what the singer is saying.

in giving the translation, the first word to take note of is 'phook', surely a very unusual word to come across in any hindustani song. 'phook de' means 'burn/burnt to ashes'. 'shama' means the flame of a candle or lamp, and 'parvane' (or 'parwane') refers to the moth attracted to 'shama' who burns and dies if he gets too close to 'shama'. Dastoor means tradition or custom.

So a rough translation of the words would be:

male: O shama, burn me to ashes, so that neither I remain nor you

           not agreeable to fate, not agreeable to fate

'Phook' also has a second, completely different meaning. It means 'blow' (as in blowing a whistle or flute or blowing on a lighted matchstick.).
