Consider, for instance, the fact that earlier two bath tubs had to be cleaned. (For simplicity, assume both had one bathroom in their respective aparttments before marriage). Now, after marriage, only one bath tub has to be cleaned. Similarly, instead of maintaing two kitchens, only one kitchen has to be maintained after the marriage and so forth.

Re: another Q
the cleaning of bathtubs and the maintenance of kitchens, so long as it's all done for themselves, by the two ppl involved, was/is not a part of the gdp before/after the two got married. hence, there would be no change in the gdp because of the bath tub(s) or the kitchen(s).Rashmun wrote:WillyNilly wrote:good try, but no cigar. she's still cooking for him.Rashmun wrote:WillyNilly wrote:a man married his cook. the gdp of their country declined. why?

when cleaning bath tubs in the u.s. one typically uses a cleaning liquid like soft scrub. fewer bottles of the cleaning liquid would now be required to be purchased (after the marriage).

Re: another Q
answer: the woman was a professional cook; she worked for the man, and received wages. those wages were a part of the gdp. a wife's services are not included in the gdp, even if she's paid an allowance by her husband. therefore, when the cook became the man's wife, the gdp declined by the amount she was previously paid as wages.WillyNilly wrote:a man married his cook. the gdp of their country declined. why?
that's the major effect on gdp. there could be secondary effects, such as the decline in demand for food and household products.
