Did you ever read this book (written by three superstars of math)

Could you give a list of math/stats books which you consider as must reads?

as you may know, i am neither a mathematician nor a statistician. i use books and journal papers on operations research, more the latter than the former. here, however, is a book that almost everyone who has learnt mathematics at school can read and enjoy. it's a historical perspective on mathematics in its many manifestations, but a surprisingly substantive one. i used it to guide myself and my children when they were growing up.Could you give a list of math/stats books which you consider as must reads?

here's a statistics book i found - and still find - useful and interesting, and therefore, valuable, and have owned for some decades.Rashmun wrote:Did you ever read this book (written by three superstars of math)

the authors, winkler and hays, bring together in one book, a rare combination of theoretical rigor and intuitively appealing explanations, without making formal proofs an essential part of the reading. it's directed more towards business and social science research than science or engineering, but has wide applicability. its focus is inference and decision.
it's probably out of print now, but a used copy may still be available.
