After its founder L. Ron Hubbard died, there ensued a power struggle in the church of scientology over who would have overall control over the resources of the church. Pat Broeker, who was apparently Hubbard's chosen successor lost the power struggle to the then 22 year old David Miscavige who--thirty years after Hubbard's death--continues to remain the undisputed head of the church.
